The Department of Sociology belongs to the founding members of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts at the restored Trnava University (1992). Its focus is on the tradition, culture and values of the original Trnava University (1635-1777), as one of the oldest universities in Central Europe. The Department of Sociology is accredited to offer  Bachelor and Master´s  study programmes with the perspective of accreditation PhD study. In the area of academic research, the department´s teachers  are focused on topics included in already existing research projects funded by various grant schemes and conducted by high-quality academic partners. The aim of  research activities is to widen sociological knowledge through the publication and scientific and educational  activities of the staff of the department.

The aim of the study of sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of Trnava University is to acquire knowledge about the society and the world in which one is located and operating. The student helps to understand the structure of society, the diversity of social institutions, forms of social action and allows them to orient themselves in social phenomena and relationships and to perceive social and individual problems of different types in context. Graduates of the Sociology  study program are conducting self-reliance, recognizing the traditional value of learning in the sense of free-lance, and respecting the pluralism of approaches in contemporary sociology. By acquiring the basics of related disciplines, emphasis is placed on the wider humanitarian profile of the graduates.
