Specific admission requirements

Primary admission prerequisite of a bachelor study programme (level “Bc.”) is the completion of full secondary education or full secondary vocational education. Other admission prerequisite is a successful completion of admission procedures.

Profile of the programme

Study in a bachelor study programme is in form of study: Full time a three-year credit single subject study programme in the study field of ethics and in form of study: External a four-year credit single subject study programme in the study field of ethics.

Key learning outcomes

- the ability to recall and reproduce basic scientific terminology, rules, norms, classical ethical theories in historical overview;

- to understand and comprehend contextual connections in historical overview of scientific issues and in contemporary topic of ethics;

- to divide individual schools and historical thought trends;

- to compare and classify factual and content issues according to selected criteria;

- the ability to express in own words opinions, supported with arguments;

- the skill of individual substantiation of solutions of selected ethical and moral issues and conflicts;

- the ability to solve current issues in ethical practice as well as to decide on application of solution in institutional context;

- the ability to apply adequate methodology in solving selected issues;

- skill in working with source and secondary scientific literature in creation of scientific text;

- ability of information analysis in interdisciplinary excursions in related fields;

- the ability of stylization of own argumentation and successful settlement of disputes through defence and substantiation;

- to elaborate professional opinion in the area of moral assessment of the issue;

- the ability to elaborate moral dispositions and virtues in everyday personal and professional practice.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

- as professionals in public administration, civil service;

- as professionals in the area of occupational codices in the state administration and self-government;

- as assistants to managers in public relations in companies, organisations, civic associations, foundations, non-profit organisations in the area of educational and training, preventive and re-socialisation institutions;

- as professionals in the area of editing and editorial work in media;

- in activity of state central and local bodies as well as international governmental and non-governmental bodies and organisations at home and abroad;

- in public administration, in central and local state administration as well as in regional self-government at the level of municipality or city bodies as well as at the level of bodies of higher regional unit.

Graduation requirements

The prerequisite of successful completion of a bachelor study programme is passing of a state examination, which includes also a defence of bachelor thesis.

Access to further studies

Bachelor study programme graduates can continue in a two-year master study programme in the field of ethics and be conferred a level Master (Mgr.).

Primary admission prerequisite of a two-year master study programme (level “Mgr.”) is the completion of bachelor university education in the field of ethics. Other admission prerequisite is a successful completion of admission procedures.

 

Profile of the programme

Study in a master study programme is a two-year credit single subject study programme in the study field of ethics.

Key learning outcomes

- to compare and understand contextual connections of contemporary scientific issues;

- to evaluate and analyse individual schools of thought and historical and contemporary thought trends in ethics;

- to categorise professional topics according to selected axiological and aretological criteria;

- the ability to devise and reconstruct classical and contemporary trends in the scientific issue;

- the ability to express in own words opinions, supported with arguments;

- the skill of individual substantiation of solutions of selected ethical issues;

- the ability to solve current issues in ethical practice as well as to decide on application of solution;

- the ability to substantiate the proposed application of adequate methodology in solving selected issues;

- the ability of analytical understanding of scientific text and own adequate interpretation;

- skill in working with source domestic and foreign literature in creation of scientific text;

- ability of information analysis in interdisciplinary excurse in related fields;

- the ability of stylization of own argumentation and successful settlement of disputes through defence and substantiation;

- to elaborate professional opinion in the area of moral assessment of the issue;

- as assistants to managers in public relations in companies, organisations, civic associations, foundations, non-profit organisations, third sector, interest and profession association, mainly in the area of consultancy, analysis, education and training, prevention and re-socialisation;

- as members of ethical commissions and consultants at the level of professional activities, e.g. in the area of media production and in human resources management;

- in activity of state central and local bodies as well as international governmental and non-governmental bodies and organisations at home and abroad (the EU);

- in public administration, in central and local state administration as well as in regional self-government at the level of municipality or city bodies as well as at the level of bodies of higher regional unit.

Access to further studies

Master study programme graduates can:

  1. 1.)continue in a three-year full-time PhD study programme and five-year part-time PhD study programme in the field of ethics and be conferred a level “PhD.” 
  2. 2.)may take a Doctor of Philosophy (PhDr.) examination including the defence of a Doctor of Philosophy thesis.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhDr.)

The graduates of the Master programme in Ethics may take a Doctor of Philosophy (PhDr.) examination including the defence of a Doctor of Philosophy thesis. If a candidate passes the examination and defends the thesis, he/she is awarded the academic degree Doctor of Philosophy (PhDr.) by the University. Specific admission requirements

Primary admission prerequisite of a PhD. study programme (level “PhD.”) is the completion of full Master study programme. A candidate for the PhD. study will agree with his tutor (from Department of Ethics) about topic of dissertation. The Candidat prepare a dissertation project for interviews. Other admission prerequisite is a successful completion of admission procedures.

Profile of the programme

The PhD. study programme is based on a credit system and it may be followed in internal (full time) or external form. Internal PhD. students are present at the faculty and take part in the academic life, consult with their tutors and publish the results of their scientific and professional work. External PhD. students study on an independent basis, consult with their tutors and publish the results of their scientific and professional work. The standard length of the PhD. study programme in internal (full time) form is three years and in external form is five years.

PhD. students should acquaint themselves with the current scientific level of knowledge in the relevant field and, in particular, contribute to ethics research in this field by their scientific work and independent creative activity in the field of ethics and moral philosophy. The Faculty is an educational institution for doctoral students.
