The Department of History at the Faculty of Arts offers its students university education and scientific knowledge specifically in Slovak history in the context of world historic developments. Key topics in the Middle Ages period are the history of settlements, social structure of the medieval society and the relation of Hungary to The Holy See. The Department members focused on Modern history deal mainly with economic, demographic and cultural history of Slovakia. In Contemporary History the main subject matters are Slovak National Movement issues, emigration of Slovaks, the position of Slovakia in international relations and also social development during the era of socialism. Thanks to scientific research grants members of the Department of History are able to explore these subject matters and subsequently publish the findings and results of their research in both domestic and foreign journals.
