Profile 

Trnava University have been second established place to study political science in Slovakia (after the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava) in 1992 after the 1989 revolution. The aim of the Department of Political Science is to educate its students in critical acknowledgement of complex subject of politics, its processes, institutions and important social problems. Our department is specialized in political philosophy, problems of modern ideologies, and the basics of political and philosophical anthropology except mandatory profile subjects which cover knowledge of international relations, history of diplomacy, political history, history of political mind, theory of politics, comparative politics, social politics, public policy, election and political party systems and other subjects of political science. 

The focus of the department up to now in the publication, scientific and pedagogical field has been mostly in actual problems of democratic transformation, actual problems in relation between ethics and politics, and facing the totalitarian history, development of Slovak political mind, history of Slovakia and European integration.

 

Graduate scope

The study of political sciences at our department extend and deepened knowledge mostly in the theory of politics, history of political mind, theory of democracy, comparative politics, international relations and diplomacy, history and political philosophy. The aim of the department personnel is education of graduate, who will then obtain complex and critical understanding of political range of human activity. Graduate should inherit useful amount of intellectual competencies, which allow him correctly understand the new changing problems and challenges in the scientific research about politics as well as practical political activities and correctly react them.

The graduate is than able to assert himself in the wide range of work opportunities which include activities of personal communication analytical thinking, strategy creating, persuading and mind setting. Our graduates find work in state administration and communal administration, journalism, scientific researcher and private sector as well.

They are also able to work as teachers of secondary education after graduation from complementary pedagogical studies.
