Projektu si kladie za cieľ na základe systematického archívneho výskumu identifikovať historické slovaciká v písomnej agende úradov Rímskej kúrie v jej historických archívoch a tie následne vo forme kritických analytických edícií publikovať v rámci edičnej série Monumenta Vaticana Slovaciae. Kritické publikovanie slovacikálnych prameňov z vatikánskych archívov je v súlade s európskou koncepciou národných historiografií nevyhnutnou súčasťou teoretickej koncepcie a definície slovenských dejín ako vedeckej disciplíny, ktorá je tak jasne definovaná nielen po stránke metodologickej, ale aj po stránke predmetu výskumu. Prítomný projekt sa usiluje predstaviť dôležité slovacikálne historické procesy tak, ako sa odrážali v politike vzájomných vzťahov v kontexte historického Uhorského kráľovstva a Rímskou kúriou. Vzájomná interakcia mala rozmanitú podobu, utvárala administratívu tunajšej cirkvi, jej personálne obsadenie i politický a kultúrny charakter. Hoci sa Rímska kúria usilovala zasahovať do pomerov v Uhorskom kráľovstve prevažne len cez svoje cirkevné inštrumenty (udeľovanie úradov a prebiend, menovanie do cirkevných funkcií atď.), vždy za tým bol aj politický kontext a definovanie vzájomných záujmov. Projekt sa primárne opiera o originálny výskum vo vatikánskych archívoch. Výskum v tomto najstaršom a najdlhšie trvajúcom archíve na svete totiž nemožno nahradiť žiadnymi inými prameňmi z domácich alebo iných zahraničných archívoch. Je zrejmé, že územie dnešného Slovenska bolo intenzívnym komunikačným cieľom Rímskej kúrie. V celkom rozsahu dokonca asi najvýznamnejším, čo súviselo s najvyvinutejšou cirkevnou infraštruktúrou v tomto politickom priestore. Z toho vyplýva dôležitosť zámeru prítomného výskumu, pretože jeho výsledky majú svoju platnosť aj pre celouhorský politický priestor. Hlavný výstup projektu budú reprezentovať štyri pramenné edície Monumenta Vaticana Slovaciae.
The project aims to identify historical Slovakic sources in the written agenda of the offices of the Roman Curia in its historical archives, based on systematic archival research, and subsequently publish them in the form of critical analytical editions within the Monumenta Vaticana Slovaciae editorial series. Critical publication of Slovakic sources from the Vatican archives is, in accordance with the European concept of national historiographies, an essential part of the theoretical concept and definition of Slovak history as a scientific discipline, which is thus clearly defined not only in terms of methodology, but also in terms of the subject of research. The present project seeks to present important Slovakic historical processes as they were reflected in the policy of mutual relations in the context of the historical Kingdom of Hungary and the Roman Curia. Mutual interaction took a diverse form, shaping the administration of the local church, its personnel, and its political and cultural character. Although the Roman Curia sought to intervene in the situation in the Kingdom of Hungary mainly through its ecclesiastical instruments (granting offices and prebends, appointments to ecclesiastical functions, etc.), there was always a political context and definition of mutual interests behind this. The project is primarily based on original research in the Vatican archives. Research in this oldest and longest-running archive in the world cannot be replaced by any other sources from domestic or other foreign archives. It is obvious that the territory of today's Slovakia was an intensive communication target of the Roman Curia. In terms of scope, perhaps the most significant, which was related to the most developed ecclesiastical infrastructure in this political space. This implies the importance of the intention of the present research, because its results are also valid for the entire Hungarian political space. The main output of the project will be represented by four source editions of Monumenta Vaticana Slovaciae.
