Napätia a konflikty medzi inováciami a tradíciami, autenticitou a odcudzením sú charakteristickým problémom modernity, pričom ich podoby sa značne menili v jednotlivých epochách. Existenciálno-filozofický a fenomenologický diskurz, na ktorý tento projekt nadväzuje, berie vážne jedinca, subjektivitu a pohľad z prvej osoby, zároveň si však uvedomuje situovanosť jedinca v konkrétnych dejinných štruktúrach. Niekedy hľadí na vzťah jedinca k tradícii s podozrením, inokedy ho hodnotí ako neutrálny či dokonca pozitívny. Originálnym príspevkom projektu je prepojenie diskurzu o napätí medzi autenticitou a tradíciou s koncepciou symbolických štruktúr. Symbolické štruktúry sú priestorom, v ktorom dochádza k rozličným napätiam medzi inováciami a tradíciou, autenticitou a odcudzením. Na jednej strane sú tieto štruktúry niečím tradovaným a kontinuitným, na druhej strane podmienkou ich rozvoja je sebaexpresia, tvorivosť a inovatívnosť konkrétnych jedincov. Napätie medzi autenticitou a tradíciou však nemusí byť len produktívne, môže dochádzať aj k neproduktívym a deštruktívnym scenárom. Projekt podrobí analýze aj tieto situácie a ponúkne celkový obraz na základe ich porovnania. Zvlášť sa zameria na kritériá hodnotenia existenciálnych kvalít tradícií a možnosti ich harmonizácie s úsilím jedinca o autentický život.
Tensions and conflicts between innovations and traditions, or authenticity and alienation, are a characteristic problem of modernity, and their forms have varied significantly in different epochs. Existential-philosophical and phenomenological discourse, on which this project is founded, takes seriously the individual, subjectivity, and the first-person perspective, but at the same time it is aware of the situatedness of the individual in concrete historical structures. Sometimes it views the invidivual’s relation to tradition with suspicion, other times it considers it as neutral or even positive. The original contribution of this project is its connecting of the discourse about the tension between authenticity and tradition with the conception of symbolic structures. Symbolic structures are the space in which various tensions between innovations and tradition, or authenticity and alienation, take place. On the one hand, these structures are passed on and continuous, and, on the other hand, the self-expression, creativity, and innovativeness of concrete individuals is a condition of their development. However, the tension between authenticity and tradition need not always be a productive one – unproductive and destructive scenarios can also occur. The project will analyze these situations as well and offer a synoptic picture of the tensions on the basis of their comparison. In particular, it will consider the criteria for evaluating the existential qualities of traditions, and the possibilities of harmonizing traditions with the individual’s striving for an authentic life.
