Project description: This project educates and trains young people from the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia in research, conservation, and historical heritage through work with a UNESCO-protected monument. The program includes visits to local heritage institutions and activities involving experts, partners, and local communities.
The project focuses on the education and practical training of young people in archaeological excavation, restoration, protection, and public presentation of cultural heritage, centered on the UNESCO-listed Roman fortress of Iža/Kelemantia (Slovakia), part of the northern Pannonian frontier of the Limes Romanus. It is designed as a summer school for students of archaeology and history, guided mainly by experts from the applicant and partner institutions. The main objective is to enable participants to apply theoretical knowledge in real conditions, strengthen their skills in heritage protection and interpretation, and deepen their understanding of ancient civilization and its impact on the historical development of Central Europe, particularly in the Central Danube region.
The project is based on cooperation among partners from the V4 countries active in education, research, and preservation of ancient heritage. The program includes hands-on archaeological research, lectures, workshops, discussions, and study visits. Students also take part in guiding visitors and tourists at the Roman fortress, which functions as an open-air museum. In addition, the project promotes social and cultural cooperation, contributing to the development of professional and personal connections between V4 participants, local communities—especially young people—and visitors from Slovakia and other EU countries.
